It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
